Thanksgiving Blessings

Thanksgiving has come and gone and I hope that everyone had a joyous and blessed day. We truly have so much to be thankful for!

This weeks feature book is The Cabin Faced West by Jean Fritz. Young Ann Hamilton was less than thrilled about their move from Gettysburg to the cabin in the wilderness. She longed for her friends that were left behind and had never been lonelier. There were only boys and babies for miles around. She kept herself busy by writing in her diary, helping her mother tend to the garden and to her baby brother.

Her mother promised that when a special occasion arose they would take time off from their hardworking life and have a party. But special occasions didn't seem to happen-until one wonderful evening, when a stranger rode up Hamilton Hill and stayed for supper. Eventually Ann adjusts to her new life, the challenges she faces and realizes there is no place she would rather be.

A wonderful story to learn about the westward expansion and pioneer life. The Cabin Faced West is great entry book for the child who is just starting to read longer chapter books. You will thoroughly enjoy this adventurous read! Ages 8-12.
